Space Junk Gives Me Eco-Anxiety: The Desk of Tim Ozman 11/13/22
It’s “F*** THE WHALES” now I guess? Nobody seems to care about the oceans any longer now that Space Environmentalism is the Current Thing. Especially not NASA, the leading polluter of outer space. On March 11, 2021, NASA dropped nearly three tons of used batteries into orbit where in the next few years it will either
a) burn up
or
b) pummel the heads of dolphins and whales while raining down upon villagers on remote undiscovered islands.
It did not occur to these rocket scientists to jettison the waste in the direction of, I don’t know, outer space, as in straight up?
Worse, billionaires like Musk are going to start mining asteroids which will turn them into trillionaire climate change accelerationists at which point falling batteries will be the least of our problems.
Maybe you recycle and live green but I’m pretty sure your masks weren’t put into red biohazard containers for proper disposal. As you read this, rest assured they’ve probably wrapped sea turtles like ill-fitted swimsuits or added themselves to the shoreline of a hideous PPE Island.
Some studies found that more than 57 million pounds of PPE and related plastic waste have polluted the oceans since the 2020 pandemic began. Enough to raise the ocean levels by at least a millimeter. Multiply that by a few more global emergencies and we have the more severe prophecies of Al Gore coming true.
No matter which way we go, the solution to one problem usually results in our total destruction by another problem caused by the initial solution. The globe is doomed. Hopefully, it’s fake.
